Name
Panel 3 | State Reforms: Navigating the Challenges of AI
Description

In 2018 there were only 60 statutes bills related to AI introduced in state legislatures throughout the nation. Today, that number has skyrocketed to roughly 650 bills across 48 states. States are not waiting for the federal government to act; they are taking the initiative to put in place policies they believe will benefit the people in their communities and businesses operating in their jurisdictions. Legislators who have taken the helm of guiding and crafting laws to govern the AI sector will discuss the most pressing legal and ethical challenges they face, including how to center the needs of human beings in policy development. The conversation will focus on issues such as risk management, data privacy, algorithmic bias, accountability, and the evolving legal landscape for AI. These experts will discuss how challenges vary across cities, states and federal agencies, and what governments can do to address them effectively.
