Claudia Ruiz is the Senior Civil Rights Policy Advisor at UnidosUS, the nation's largest Latino civil rights and advocacy organization, where she leads work at the intersection of civil rights, democracy, and technology. Her work confronts the civil rights and civil liberties threats posed by unchecked surveillance and data exploitation while fighting for robust governance frameworks that allow artificially intelligent technologies to actually deliver on their promise of shared opportunity and prosperity. Her work is guided by a core conviction: the values we all share—fairness, dignity, freedom, equality—are not obstacles to innovation, but rather the terms on which technology should be governed. For Claudia, the measure of innovation isn't what it builds, it's how many of us are able to share in it.

Claudia also leads UnidosUS's work on voting rights and democracy reform and frequently speaks on the threats posed by online mis- and disinformation, including the role of social media in amplifying false claims that suppress voters and undermine elections. She serves as Co-Chair of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights' Media/Telecommunications Task Force and is a former Co-Chair of the Federal Communications Commission's Consumer Advisory Committee.
