Tomo Lazovich is an Assistant Professor of the Practice in AI Governance and Policy at Brown University’s Data Science Institute. They are also a core collaborator at Brown’s Center for Technological Responsibility, Reimagination, and Redesign (CNTR). As part of this role, they serve as Policy Director for the CNTR AISLE program, an effort to systematically analyze trends in AI legislation across the United States. Tomo has a wealth of experience building responsible AI systems and bridging the gap between the technical and policy sides of AI governance. Their research focuses on the ways that algorithmic systems impact everyday people and legal remedies for individuals harmed by algorithmic decisions. They have worked on teams addressing the societal impacts of AI at Twitter, the U.S. Census Bureau, and Northeastern University’s Institute for Experiential AI. They hold a Ph.D. in Physics from Harvard University and are currently completing a part-time JD program at Northeastern University School of Law.
