The property insurance crisis has emerged as one of the most pressing — and underexamined — threats to housing affordability and equity in America. Rising premiums, policy non-renewals, and the withdrawal of major insurers from entire markets are destabilizing the financial security of homeowners and renters while raising serious questions about how to move forward. The increase in severe weather-related events, rising cost of labor and materials, crippling infrastructure, supply chain challenges, building and zoning code issues, and misaligned priorities are all contributing to the problem. These pressures do not fall equally: underserved communities face the steepest consequences, deepening long-standing disparities in wealth-building and neighborhood stability. This panel convenes a cross-sector group of leaders to move beyond diagnosis and toward durable solutions.
