Speaker Bio
Carol Evans is a civil rights attorney working at the intersection of civil rights, consumer protection and technology. In roles at the CFPB, Federal Reserve Board and Department of Justice, she has promoted equity through policy making, supervision and enforcement. She advocates a clear-eyed view of technology -- examining both its potential to entrench discrimination and its potential to facilitate the enforcement of laws through fair lending testing. She has authored several publications about bias and technology.
Most recently, Carol served as Deputy Fair Lending Director in the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Office of Fair Lending and Equal Opportunity. At the CFPB, she focused on algorithmic bias through policymaking and studying less discriminatory alternatives. Carol previously held several leadership roles at the Federal Reserve Board, including overseeing examinations, enforcement and policy development for fair lending, as well as for unfair or deceptive acts or practices. Carol graduated magna cum laude from both Smith College and Harvard Law School.
